Rothschild expresses his anger about the lack of proper care and conservation devoted to his collection, which features a number of 1st editions, fragile bindings and manuscripts. Annexes to the letter include the original agreement between Rothschild and the College about the donation, a letter to the Master of Trinity from Rothschild speculating about the possibility of donating his collection, references to book conservators and a typed transcription of a ms. note that Rothschild refers to in his open letter.
