Binding
16th century painted brown calf; in part painted, with an onlaid morocco panel picked out in red and gold, with centre foliage design encased in black strapwork, with four Atlantes, one at each corner, their outlines picked out in gold; smooth spine, panelled in four compartments decorated with gilt stippling, on both covers a stipple effect in red and gold; edges gauffered and gilt (rebacked, original spine laid down, remains of ties); fore-edge decoration; in box. The binding was made in Flanders and is contemporary with the book. There are three other known bindings that share a hatched fleuron tool with this, all printed ca. 1550.
